About
Oscar Blustin is Artistic Director of site-specific theatre company SPECIFIQ and works internationally as a director, writer, producer and immersive consultant.
He has created pioneering immersive and interactive adventures for clients including the UNESCO World Heritage Site in Durham, London’s National Maritime Museum, and the London Transport Museum, as well as landmarks including Tower Bridge, The Actors’ Church in Covent Garden, and Wilton’s Music Hall. He founded SPECIFIQ in 2011, an experiential site-specific theatre company that has produced work at venues from the National Theatre to the Vaults beneath Waterloo Station, from high-rise office blocks and castles to libraries, churches, disused shopfronts, forests and stately homes.
Predominantly working in the cultural heritage sector, Oscar is regularly commissioned by organisations looking to bring history to life and explore forgotten stories in unforgettable ways. In traditional theatre, Oscar has directed at leading off-West End venues including the Soho Theatre, the Leicester Square Theatre and the Finborough, as well as the Abingdon Theatre off-Broadway and various regional theatres up and down the East Coast of America. He has lectured at universities, drama schools and conferences on both sides of the Atlantic, and was awarded a Visiting Fellowship at Keene State University, New Hampshire.
Oscar lives in Venice, Italy.
Works
It’s Always Ourselves We Find in the Sea is an immersive sound installation that explores our cultural relationships with water. A collaboration with legendary musician, producer and sound artist Martyn Ware and immersive creator Anna Söderblom, the installation premiered in Venice in May 2022, and toured to the UK in Summer 2023.
Rehearsed and recorded remotely during lockdown, Peter Pan features an all-star cast including Kenneth Branagh, Bertie Carvel, Sharon D Clarke, Olivia Colman, Jason Flemyng, Jane Horrocks, Joanna Riding, and Clive Rowe.
Commissioned by Hammer Films as a first foray into the immersive space, The Soulless Ones played at Hoxton Hall, converting the jewel-box Victorian music hall into a gothic maze of canon-inspired sets and characters.
SPECIFIQ was founded in 2011 to create truly site-specific theatre – telling stories from history in the places where they originally happened. Over the years the company evolved, producing work in a variety of formats, from full-scale theatrical shows and immersive events to educational workshops and digital activations.
Directing, writing and producing traditional theatre from Off-West End in London to regional American plays and musicals.
